About the LSAT

The LSAT measures skills necessary for law school success, including reading, reasoning, and writing abilities. Law schools use LSAT scores as part of a holistic admission process — and for making scholarship and financial aid decisions.

The LSAT is administered in two parts:

  • A four-section multiple-choice test.
  • A written essay called LSAT Argumentative Writing®. This essay is administered remotely and can be completed as early as eight days prior to the multiple-choice test.
