Step 1: Understanding the Real Problem
Enrollment requires a LawHub Advantage purchase
About the course
This course is the second in the Thinking Like a Lawyer series and teaches learners how to uncover the real problem beneath the surface by slowing down and asking more effective questions. Using a relatable scenario involving a student athlete navigating a complex decision, learners explore how initial problem statements are often shaped by urgency or assumptions-and why those first impressions can lead to incomplete or ineffective solutions.
Learners are introduced to practical tools like the Five Whys and guided to identify key elements such as goals, interests, and strengths. By the end of the course, they will be better equipped to move beyond surface-level questions, avoid assumptions, and define problems more clearly-creating a stronger foundation for thoughtful decision-making in both legal contexts and everyday life.
